D Arrival and Orientation of the Faroe Islands. Arrival times are with Atlantic Airways either 13:40 through Copenhagen or 19:00 through Paris. Check in to Hotel 3 star downtown. We will stay in the same hotel 3 nights. Dinner and an evening walk around Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. Saturday night in the Faroe Islands, can check out some local night life.
B, D Sunday Morning spent with a walking tour around Tórshavn. We will begin with the historic Tinganes district, visit the charming old town and walk around the harbor and the iconic Skansin fortress. Tórshavn is a compact and pictureque city easily discoverable on foot. We will end the walking tour with some free time and time for lunch. 14:00 gravel bicycle tour approx 18 km. We bike past the Sandagerð beach, a location used in the TV-series TROM, and further along paths and roads in the city’s southwestern district. Returning to Torshavn, we continue along paths beside the stream and pass between houses in the western city before reaching the city center. On return to Tórshavn, we will have dinner on one of Faroe Islands finest restaurants with Faroese Cuisine.
B, D Today we will depart to Gamlarætt and visit Sandoy Island. We will begin with the charming village of Skopun. Sandoy is known for its great agricultural land and amazing cliffs abundant with bird life. We will have the time to have a slow paced day and visit the little villages of Sandur, Dalur, and Húsavík. This day will be spent with a bit of walking, small hikes, bird watching, and exploring local culture. Dinner tonight is the main event. We will be experiencing dinner with a family in Roykstovan í Kirkjubo. The house dates from 1100 and has been occupied by the same family for 17 generations. It is one of the oldest timber houses in the world. After dinner we will go back to Tórshavn.
B, D Today you will discover Klaksvík, the second-largest town in the Faroe Islands. Klaksvík is located on the island of Borðoy and it is known for it´s picturesque surroundings and fishing industry. After a walk around town, we will visit Föroya Bjór brewery which brews some of the best beer in the world. They also make excellent gin and whiskey. We will have a tour of the facility and of course a tasting after. Dinner will be at one of the local restaurants.
B, D After Breakfast we will explore a bit more of Eysturoy Island stopping at Runavik. Runavik has one of the most important fishing harbors in the Faroe Islands. Fishing is one of the main exports of the Faroe Islands. The surrounding landscape offers opportunities for a little hiking while enjoying vies of the fjords and coastal areas. For those staying an extra night in the Faroe Islands, there will be a working farm visit, then a visit to the town on Vestmanna where there is a visit to a wax museum and dinner. Last night in Tórshavn. For those leaving to Iceland Departure is 17:00 by M/S Nörrona.
